The following list of books
are ones that I do not currently own, but that are on my "wish
list" of books. All are highly recommended by readers at
Amazon.
Mind & Muscle
Psych Up, Build Up
This book is designed to show serious
bodybuilders and high-level strength training enthusiasts how to
incorporate mental exercises into a physical workout. It contains specific mental-training information tailored to
strength development and bodybuilding, from the most basic goal
setting for body shaping to the most advanced psyching techniques
for competing.
This
book, published in December 2003 is the first biography of Doug
Hepburn, one of the all time great Olympic lifters. Born with
a club foot Doug overcame this limitation to lift some awesome poundage
in both Olympic and power lifting.
Documents Alexeyev's life from childhood to
around 1977. The book also briefly discusses the weightlifting
careers of John Davis, Norbert Schemansky, Paul Anderson, Doug
Hepburn, Alexis Medvedyev, Leonid Zhabotinsky, and Yuri Vlasov.
The book also contains about 45 black and white photographs in the
back of the book.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this
book and the magazine below at Amazon. I once bid on the
original edition of this book on Ebay, but couldn't quite fathom the
final price of somewhere in the 300-dollar range! While I've
never read the book, for the true lover of Iron History it's a must
buy.
This is an excellent book that I've
grouped with the other two items above. I own this book and
can highly recommend it, especially since it is one of the few scholarly
written history books in the field of bodybuilding.
Quotations for
Martial Artists: Hundreds of Inspirational Quotes to Motivate and
Enlighten the Modern Warrior
I included this book here mainly because
I don't have a martial arts category yet, and the book looked very
interesting. Highly recommended by reviews at Amazon.
I don't know much about this book other than that it
was written by the famous Weightlifter Paul Anderson. While it
is listed as "new," it is out of print, but still
available used through Amazon
Strength And
Conditioning Journal
A magazine that I
have not read, but I thought it might be interesting to Bigsteel
readers. Probably a bit more technical than the typical
weight training book.
Kelso's Shrug Book
This is the revised edition of Paul Kelso original book
on shrugs, now 75% longer than the original!View details of Kelso's Shrug Book
